Silica gel (silicon dioxide or SiO2) is a naturally occurring mineral that is purified and processed into either granular or beaded form and is used to absorb moisture. It is best used in dry packing for ICs, medical instruments, machine parts, electronic components, optical equipment, tools, documents, and cameras. Silica gel can also absorb compounds other than water. The relative order of absorbability is: water, ammonia, alcohols, aromatics, diolefins, olefins, and paraffins.
Clay desiccants can be used for protecting valuables against harmful moisture and for preventing corrosion. Areas of application include packing for ICs, medical instruments, machine parts, electronic components, optical equipment, tools, documents, cameras, and more.

Humidity Indicator Cards (HIC)
Humidity indicator cards are used in dry packing to detect the humidity level in the dry pack environment. The indicating spots on the cards contain a moisture-sensitive chemical that changes color upon absorbing moisture. These HICs are carcinogen-free.
